have you ever heard a song that leaves you breathless?

i heard it tonight. and i honestly don't know how i've missed it all of these years. i grew up on this kind of music. my mom used to take us to gospel concerts regularly. i don't know. maybe i did hear it at some point and just missed it. but i have a lot of favorites that i've loved a long time. and i'm pretty sure this would have been one of them.

regardless, i heard it tonight. i finally bought the latest gaither vocal band cd. finally. i was listening to it while i was editing a recent session tonight. and the words of this song made me stop. the tears rolling down my cheeks, i could do nothing but just listen. and it just... wow. i don't even truly have words. but it makes you think.

i think that sometimes, we get so used to hearing about Christ's crucifixion, that it is easy to take for granted. and not that we ever should. but we are human. or at least i am. but this song made me think. it made me really THINK. i had to share it somehow, for those to whom it might mean something. for those who've never heard it either. or for those who haven't heard it in a very long time.

this version isn't the one i have on the cd. but it was all i could find. the song is called "then He bowed His head and died."

bray's island

last week, i had the opportunity to travel to bray's island, which is near beaufort, for a special photo session. i met this family during the first beaufort portrait party, although i didn't photograph them that day. mom wanted a special portrait of her older girl, miss a, to be painted by an oil paint artist. so, we met at bray's island, which used to be in her husband's family.

wow! is this place gorgeous! it was seriously a photographer's dream and i didn't even scratch the surface. but, as usual, the kids always steal the show. as well they should! miss a is quite a character and we played back and forth. miss l was a true southern belle complete with moments of shyness. and mister s is just the happiest guy you will ever meet! three fun kids, beautiful mom, gorgeous location. gold! i've said it before, but i LOVE my job!

thank you, to the p family, for allowing me the honor and joy of photographing your family! i had a blast!

go berkeley!

yes, i am behind again. seriously, is anyone surprised? and yes, sara, i know that i need to post some from that session on which you assisted me. :)

on tuesday, i met with miss h, who is my senior rep from berkeley high school. she is a student of my sister's. and she is a total sweetheart. she was game for anything i suggested, except being serious. she said she's just a happy person, so serious pictures don't suit her. she is what more people should be. she's sweet, polite and personable! i hope that she realizes just how beautiful she truly is, both inside and out.

quick sneak peek

i had a portrait party on saturday morning at sullivan's island. starting at 8:30 am, i had seven mini-sessions. and my shoulders have the burn to prove it! yes, i know i should've worn sunscreen, but i thought about it on my way out the door. really though, it isn't too bad since i already had a tan to start. but i digress.

the faces i saw were familiar ones, children i have photographed through a local preschool. i've grown to love these kids, so it was a treat for me to get to see them again! it was also wonderful to meet some of the parents i hadn't had the opportunity to meet yet.

anyway, i promised one mom i'd post a sneak peek today or tomorrow. so, i will do it now. i'm only posting one picture from each session. i'll try to most more later in the week, as i go through and do my real session editing. in the meantime, enjoy!

a very blustery day

so, i'm running a touch behind in my proofing. this session actually took place LAST saturday. but i have to get caught up because i had seven mini-sessions at sullivan's island yesterday (yes, i said seven) that i have eager clients wanting to see. but in the meantime...

this family is a lot of fun. i'm never quite sure what we'll end up doing. i knew that we were going to the beach at kiawah near their home. but it was a part of the beach where i've not been yet, so i wasn't sure what to expect. i will say that mom and i agreed that the kiawah beaches are much prettier than folly and isle of palms (brown sand and green water, anyone?). but it was seriously windy. it's always windy at the beach, but this was an extreme. what's with that? my last kiawah session was spent waiting for the wind to take a break.

anyway, lots of fun, this family. little mr. j was completely and totally soaked. but at least he had a good time and i managed to get some great shots of his fun! and for some reason, we always take a jumping picture. and everybody has to be off the ground before we stop taking jumping pictures. someday, i'm sure they'll wonder why we've taken all of the jumping pictures, but at least they're fun!

the cutest thing ever

i declare a lot of things the cutest thing ever. but seriously, if you can tell me that this child is not the cutest thing you've seen all day. well, then i don't know what. i was so excited on saturday when i met her with mom and dad and beheld her cuteness. seriously. adorable! she's a pistol too. she had my number. but, oh, i had hers too. and so, we did the dance, namely to the "abc" song. it was a workout, but the results are so worth it!

and admit it, mom. you know that you left our session thinking i had gotten nothing. most moms do. but i got something. thank you for spending time with me on saturday morning. it was a lot of fun. i'm happy we were finally able to have that session we wanted way back when! :) mom is a sweetheart--a petite little thing. but a firecracker too (ain't nothin' wrong with that either). and let's just say that the lovely child takes after her mama! but both with hearts of gold!

a is for astron

some pictures from graymour-bediko stables

Addie rides weekly at Graymour-Bediko Stables in Ladson. She loves it there! We went early on Friday because it is such a perfect location for portraits. I only wish I could take clients there. But since I can't, I will fully take advantage of it's beauty for portraits of my children. And I really didn't anticipate Ian getting in on the fun (since he normally runs the opposite way of my camera). If I had known, I would've dressed him up a little. Oh well, he loves his surfer dinosaur shirt, so it works!
